Rocket Salad

0

Common Name: Salad Rocket

Latin Name: Eruca sativa

Description: Salad rocket is an oily-peppery flavoured salad green. It is very fast growing – grows like a rocket!  Harvest the leaves whilst they are young as they will become bitter after the plant flowers.  It may self-seed in other parts of the garden but it’s easy to pull out if it goes berserk! Annual. 50cm.

Harvesting: Begin harvesting leaves when 7 – 10cm long.

Best Results: Best in cooler months as heat can cause the plant to bolt to seed. The better the soil, the better the crop.

Uses: Delicious in a mixed leaf salad or use as a bed for warm steak. Can also be added to stir-fries and sauces.

Companion: Combine with fatty meat like pork or savoury dishes cooked with cream
