Common Name: Basil Red Rubin
Description: Large, nearly pure purple leaves with lighter coloured flowers. Great flavour and aroma. Annual. 40cm.
Harvesting: Harvest frequently and remove flowers to encourage new growth.
Best Results: The more basil is harvested, the more it should be fertilised. Add lots of organic matter. Grow this plant in full sun to ensure that the leaves remain red and be careful not to overwater.
Uses: Use leaves fresh or dried in the same way as other basils. Excellent as a garnish or add to herb vinegars as the leaves will turn the vinegar a lovely shade of pink.
Companion: Plant near tomato & capsicum to improve growth. Basil is one of the best herbs for repelling mosquitoes so plant several around the outdoor entertaining area.
