Catnip

Common Name: Catnip

Latin Name: Nepeta cataria

Description: Grey green downy leaves that cats find irresistible. Whorls of white with purple spotted flowers in summer. Perennial. 100cm.

Harvesting: Harvest leaves or cut full stems to hang and dry at any time.

Best Results: Cut back by two-thirds when leggy to encourage new growth. If the plant becomes woody, pruning it really hard will encourage new growth.

Uses: Cats love to eat and roll in this plant. It can make them either a little “high” or incredibly cuddly. The effect lasts about 20 minutes and the cat is immune to its’ effect for another 20 minutes. Dried leaves can be used to stuff cat toys.

Companion: Repels cabbage pests, aphids, beetles & ants from the garden and vegetable beds.
