Common Name: Chamomile – German
Latin Name: Matricaria recutita
Description: Attractive, feathery foliage and daisy-like flowers in spring and summer. Will self-seed throughout garden. Fairly short lived in the heat of a WA summer. Annual. 30cm.
Harvesting: Pick the flowers early in the morning just as they begin to open. Store dried or frozen.
Best Results: Grow in slightly acid soil to increase oil content.
Uses: Use as a soothing tea by steeping fresh or dried flowers in hot water for 6 – 8 minutes. Avoid if pregnant.
Companion: Chamomile tea is a cure for “damping off” in seedlings or as tonic for sick plants. Make a tea out of the flowers and when cool water over seedlings every week of so. Chamomile is a good companion for roses
