Common Name: Chamomile – Lawn
Latin Name: Anthemis nobilis
Description: Traditional ground cover with bright green feathery foliage and erect stems of small, daisy-like flowers. Can be lightly mown if necessary. Takes light foot traffic. Placing three plants per square metre will fill an area within about three months. This plant spreads by stolons. Perennial. 30cm.
Harvesting: Pick the flowers early in the morning just as they begin to open. Store dried or frozen.
Best Results: When planting as lawn, prepare and plant the area over winter to allow the roots to be well establish before the heat of summer. A thick layer of mushroom compost before planting will get the plants off to a great start.
Uses: Use as a soothing herbal tea but avoid if pregnant. Plant amongst paving.
Companion: Chamomile tea is a cure for “damping off” in seedlings or as tonic for sick plants. Good companion for roses.
