Common Name: Geranium Peppermint Scented
Latin Name: Pelargonium tomentosum
Description: This is a vigorous evergreen with heart-shaped, velvety leaves that have a delicious peppermint perfume. The plant will spread over quite a large area, almost like a ground cover, but it is very easy to control with hard pruning every now and then. Very low maintenance. Perennial. Height 50cm.
Harvesting: Harvest the leaves at any time. Keep them in a vase of water or in the fridge.
Best Results: Grow in full sun or part shade in rich, well drained soil. Regular water. Remove dead flowers and cut back hard every year to promote new growth. Suitable for pots.
Uses: Line a cake tin with leaves before pouring in a chocolate cake mix. Bake and then peel the leaves off before serving. It will add a lovely peppermint perfume to the cake. Also used in jellies, jams & teas.
Companion: Plant amongst flower beds to add colour and to keep down weeds.
