Common Name: Mint – Spearmint
Latin Name: Mentha spicata viridis
Description: Creeping herb with sweetly scented, spear shaped leaves and tiny whitish pink flowers. Sprawling but invasive habit makes it best grown in large tubs. Perennial. 70cm.
Harvesting: Harvest at any time, use dried or fresh. Try freezing in ice blocks.
Best Results: If rust appears or plant looks lanky, cut down very hard and cover with compost. Throw leaves in bin.
Uses: Classic ingredient in Mint Julep and summer drinks. Also delicious in desserts and jellies or used as a garnish.
Companion: Fresh or dried mint will deter ants from the pantry and repel clothes moth.
