Common Name: Spring Onion
Latin Name: Allium fistulosum
Description: Straight, white stems changing to green leaves. Slightly enlarged bulb. Prefers pH 5.3 to 5.8. Choose sunny position and keep soil moist. Height 30cm.
Harvesting: Pull the plant when 30cm tall and stem between 8 to 15mm thick.
Best Results: Plant in sheltered position to prevent breakage and bending of stems. Grow in full sun in slightly acidic soil. Water regularly. Suitable for pots.
Uses: Use raw in salads, scatter through omelettes or add end of stir frying.
Companion: Onions deter many insects such as aphids so plant these throughout the vegetable garden
