Latin Name: Nasturtium officinale
Description: Watercress is a spreading aquatic plant that can also be grown in pots in a shady position so long as it is given plenty of water. Small leaves have a hot, peppery flavour. Perennial. Height 15cm.
Harvesting: Harvest the leaves just before serving. Clumps of watercress that still have their roots attached can be kept indoors in vases for a few weeks.
Best Results: Watercress is best grown in running water but will also do well if water is changed weekly. If growing in soil, keep the pots very moist. Grow in full shade.
Uses: Delicious in salads, sandwiches and soups. Highly nutritious superfood.
Companion: Can be kept in pots and grown on the margins of fish ponds.
