Latin Name: Ocimum americanum
Description: Shiny green leaves packed with intense lemon fragrance. Whorls of flowers appear in summer. Annual. Height 55cm.
Harvesting: Harvest frequently and remove flowers to encourage new growth.
Best Results: Grow in full sun or part shade in rich, well drained soil or premium potting mix. Suitable for large pots or containers. The more basil is harvested, the more it should be fertilised. Add lots of organic matter.
Uses: Use leaves in salads, Asian dishes, herbal teas, oils & vinegar. Also suitable for pot pourri.
Companion: Rub on skin as repels mosquitoes. Plant near tomatoes to improve flavour.
